Landmark Bur Oak Removed for Highway Expansion

Spring and Winter Tree

I fell in love with this tree while performing in Evita at The Fireside Dinner Theatre in 2006. She stood along highway 26 between Milton and Janesville. She represented strength and beauty. Driving by her reminded me to stop and pay homage to the magic that is life on this crazy planet.

About a week ago, Mark Hirsch of That Tree posted an article on his facebook page saying that this beautiful Bur Oak was scheduled for removal due to the expansion of HIghway 26.

As the daughter of an arborist and the owner of a municipal tree trimming company West Coast Arborists, Inc. I understand that trees need to be removed. I take photos and videos of the process for WCA’s facebook page and I know it has to happen for a miriad of reasons. But, I can’t help being hit with a crazy sense of sadness and a visceral kick to the gut.

The Fireside stage manager  and good friend M.J. Bernhardt sent this news tonight. This symbol of strength no long stands. I’m so grateful for her beauty.
